State Wrap Up / Banquet Date & More News

    BTW Swim Families,

Please read through for some important news about the State Championship, the Swim Banquet and more.

Congratulations to Coach Norman and her assistant coaches Morgan Little and Kaitlyn Lee and to the entire Hornets swim team for a highly successful season!

Things finished off with a bang for the team at the State Championship Meet last weekend as the girls’ took 2nd Place as Runners Up and the boys’ earned a strong 3rd Place finish. We believe these were the highest finishes for the teams in many years. Last year each team ended up in 4th Place. We’re also very proud of the teams for being awarded the 5A State Academic Champions - they were the teams with the highest GPA among all 5A school swim teams! Well done, Hornets!

Here a few online links to info about the State Championship:
5A State Finals Article - Coach Norman is quoted and there are photos of Luke James and Mackenzie Martin in the photo gallery. Emma Latta's win in the 50 Freestyle is mentioned, as is Mackenzie Martin's 2nd place finish in the 500 Freestyle.

State Championship Results at the Tulsa World website - scroll down the page for all the 5A results.

Full PDFs of the State Prelim and Finals on the OSSAA website

We hope to have those results included on the team website once we receive the file to upload.

...the parents who volunteered to be Lane Timers and Award Distributors at Regionals and State. Your help was greatly appreciated!

...all who attended the State meets. We had a loud and proud cheering section!

...the Moms who coordinated the State events and stayed in the hotel overnight with the swimmers. You’re awesome!

If you didn’t attend the State Championship Finals  or watch it live, you can view a video of the entire meet online here: Cox High School Hub State Championship Video Replay

It’s a 4-hour long video. Last year, they had posted single videos for each event, but it doesn’t look like they’ve done that this year. There’s a lot of great footage of our swimmers in there - if you take the time to watch it all!

I have uploaded a few photos to the Regionals and State albums on the team website. Go to Photos to view those.

While the swim season is now officially over, there are still team-related activities that’ll happen.

    When: Thursday, April 6, 6 - 9 p.m.
    Where: Harvard Avenue Christian Church

This is a fun pot-luck dinner event for the whole family where we look back at the team’s accomplishments, say farewell to our Seniors and watch a slideshow video of this season’s highlights. The 11th Grade swimmers help plan the on-stage presentation activities for the banquet. A Sign Up Genius page will be set up in the near future with slots for items that will be needed for the pot luck as well as helpers.

Our coordinator for the banquet has had to bow out due to taking care of an ill family member, so we are looking for someone to step in and coordinate the banquet. If you have a knack for organizing and decorating, please consider taking this on. You’ll be working with a seasoned crew of Booster Club board members who have worked on the banquet before. Please contact me or Melanie James if you’d like to do this. It really is a fun event!

It’s also the time of year where we get ready to elect officers for next year and look for committee coordinators. If you have an interest in a particular office or committee, please let us know by replying to this message or contacting a Booster Club officer. Information about the Booster Club is available on the team website under the Boosters menu; from that menu you can choose Volunteer Roles to read details about specific positions.

A detailed message with more information about Booster Club offices and the election will be sent next week.

If you have rented your parka this year, info about returning that will be sent out soon.
