Carbon Monoxide Issue at Ft. Gibson Swim Invitational
Varsity Swimmers & Families
Coach Meilner just received the message below from the Fort Gibson swim coach about a carbon monoxide leak that was discovered in the pool area after many people complained of feeling sick last night. Our coaches and swimmers felt these symptoms but didn't know what was going on.
If a coach or swimmer is still feeling any of these symptoms (listed below,) you should check in with your physician ASAP.
Coach Meilner says that the room where the leak was found is behind the starting blocks where swimmers were gathering during warm ups and before heats, but they were sitting well away from that room other than those times.
Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns about this situation.

FWD Message from Fort Gibson Schools Superintendent
Coaches,
Please be advised that after our invitational last night, we had several individuals become ill and exhibited symptoms consistent with carbon monoxide poisoning. Upon immediate investigation, we found there to be a potential exhaust issue with a heater and want to ensure that you are made aware of any potential risk. The concentration of concern resides in and near the hospitality room area, so please be advised that if you spent an extended period of time in that location you may have been exposed to heightened levels of carbon monoxide. Levels and exposure have not been confirmed, but out of an abundance of caution, we want you to be on alert.
If you or your kids are experiencing any of the following symptoms, please consider consulting a physician immediately. Symptoms:
Signs and symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning may include:
- Dull headache
- Weakness
- Dizziness
- Nausea or vomiting
- Shortness of breath
- Confusion
- Blurred vision
- Loss of consciousness
Best regards,
Scott Farmer
Superintendent
