BTW Swimmer's Weekly--August 13, 2023
***From the Booster Club***
Welcome to the 2023 - 2024 school/swim year! We are excited to have everyone returning and joining the team.
Communications regarding team events, meets, needs, and other information will come out on a weekly basis, generally on Sunday evenings. Periodically there will be a need for additional emails during the week, however please count on a weekly communication on Sundays.
From the Coaches
- Optional Practice this week: Monday - Wed 3:00-4:30
- These days are not required but have been requested by some swimmers.
- Pool will be open and coach on deck with a set posted for those who want to get some exercise.
- Thursday/Friday - will be 7th hour only (we want to let the kids get acclimated back to school routines)
- Swimmers will need to make sure that they have the gear they need for practice, suits, caps, goggles, Kick board, fins, pull buoy, snorkel - etc.
- The link for gear is on our website.
- Swimmers will also need to make sure that they have dryland gear with them everyday- Shorts, T-shirt, socks, tennis shoes.
- This year during preseason we will be doing both dryland/lifting & swimming everyday so they will need both swim and dryland gear everyday.
- We are hoping to replenish our snack cabinet this year.
- We often have kids come to practice who have not had anything to eat since lunch and are hungry.
- If you happen to be at a store and would like to grab a box of granola bars, dried fruit, beef jerky, or any other high-protein item to bring for us to have on deck, that would be much appreciated.
From the Booster Club
- There are quite a few volunteer opportunities throughout the year that need to be filled. The booster club and swim team run best when everyone volunteers. Some of the immediate chair positions are:
- Fundraising Events - Reach out and coordinate Restaurant Give Back Nights. The goal is 3 or 4 for the year.
- Senior Night Coordinator - Coordinate swim senior night; can be more than 1 person; must be a senior parent
- There are additional positions that will be shared over the next month or so and at the mandatory booster club meeting in September. In addition, there are many volunteer needs during home swim meets.
- The Ralston family is graciously hosting an event at their lake house on Saturday, August 26th, 4 - 8 pm.
- Be on the lookout for details and ways you can help, including parent drivers as students cannot drive for team events.
- One of the great BTW Swim Team traditions is Bonding Night Lock In. This is an overnight event for the team filled with activities, food and little sleep!
- Event details will be forthcoming and we hope to have as many of the swimmers attend as possible.
- The 2023 Bonding Night will be Friday, September 15th; drop off will be at 7:00 pm and pick up the following morning.
- Thank you to Stephanie Heck for leading the planning and Faith Simmons for assisting.
- Booster Club meetings will take place the second Wednesday of every month.
- The first, on September 13th, due to the large amount of information to be shared as well as voting on the annual budget, we ask that at least one parent for each swimmer attends.
- The meeting will begin at 6:00, location TBD.
